Abstract

Introduction: Ice hockey has one of the highest participation and injury rates in youth in Canada. Body checking is the most frequent mechanism of injury in youth ice hockey. The purpose of this study was to determine if the risk of concussion, concussion severity, all injury, and injury severity differ for Pee Wee (11–12 years) and Bantam (13-14 years) ice hockey play–rs in a league where body checking is permitted at age 11 (Alberta, Canada) compared to players in a league where body checking is not permitted until age 13 (Quebec, Canada).
