Abstract

(Abstracted from Gynecol Oncol 2020;157:195–201) Cervical cancer screening programs and prophylactic high-risk human papillomavirus have significantly decreased the incidence and increased early detection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), which can progress to cervical cancer if left untreated. Surgical excision of CIN is very effective; however, research shows that women who have previously treated CIN are at an increased risk for developing cervical cancer compared with the general population.
