Abstract

ABSTRACTThe following is a qualitative analysis of inmate responses toward the Impact of Crime on Victims Class (ICVC) program in the State of Missouri. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 25 inmate participants and four program administrators (N = 29) that asked of participants’ perceptions of ICVC and attitudes toward victims. In some cases, participants displayed difficulty in identifying who the victim(s) of their crime(s) were. Taking responsibility and exhibiting empathy have been deemed key determinants of cognitive rehabilitation as well as the desired goal of victim impact programming. It is therefore prudent to identify variables that influence such responses. Recommendations for the future of ICVC programming are included.
