Abstract

Generalizing our previous work, the electron-ion interaction matrix element is examined in the rigid-ion approximation for electrons in a wide band. The exact Wannier representation is used to exploit the symmetry of the lattice. It is found that the expected main contribution to the matrix element is wave-vector independent and equals zero under certain circumstances. Probable consequences in two-band metals are indicated.
