Abstract

First and foremost, we appreciate thoughtful commentaries on our original paper. It is very pleasing to know that all the commentators concur on the significance of our research concerning ‘the changing profile of crime and the police response’. As is noted by Professor Button, given the nature and size of the current problem of fraud it is surprising that it continues to enjoy a relatively low salience within academic debate and research. Official recognition of the extent of the problem came, of course, with the ONS Crime Survey of 2016 which for the first time included data on fraud/cybercrime.
