Abstract
To the Editor :—In the February issue of theARCHIVES OFOTOLARYNGOLOGY( 21 :206, 1935) there is a short article by Dr. L. P. Monson in which a new incision for the Caldwell-Luc operation is described. Dr. Monson compares this incision with the vertical one and rates them both as superior to the classic horizontal incision. He repeats the statement, made by Carmody and many others, that because these incisions are in line with the infra-orbital nerves they are followed by less dental anesthesia and less paresthesia of the cheek. Granted that this is true, it is not due entirely to the incision. With the horizontal incision the only fibers cut are those going to the gum, below the incision.
