Abstract

The aim of this study, besides providing new distributional data on riffle beetle Macronychus quadrituberculatus Muller, 1806 in Serbia, is a contribution to the knowledge on the species ecology. During extensive field research (2013–2016 period) a total of 415 zoobenthic samples were processed. Macronychus quadrituberculatus was found at only seven sampling sites in Serbia; all of them are situated in the Pannonian Plain or its bordering regions. Although the species moderate tolerance to organic pollution and anthropogenic pressure was noted, due to scarce findings and a low number of specimens sampled, M. quadrituberculatus regarded as rare and vulnerable species in Serbia and the Balkan Peninsula as well.
