Abstract

Siberia strikes our imagination not only with its endless expanses, but also with its tremendous productive resources. Its role in the construction of socialist society is growing steadily. Nonetheless the principal wealth of Siberia is not oil and gas, diamonds and coal, torrential rivers and Baikal water, the purest in the world,1 but people, their creative energies, their intellectual riches, their courage. Everyone knows about the steadfastness of the Siberian Russians in the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War. Hence the great interest both in our country and abroad in the history of the peoples of Siberia, about which there is much that is still to be unravelled, is not surprising. This interest is expressed in various forms and is directly linked to the class ideology of historians, and with the ideological struggle of our times.
