Abstract

Studies on rhetorical strategy have been done extensively by Western countries as compared to their developing Eastern counterparts. The concept and tradition of the rhetorical strategy research have emerged and prospered in the West, but have been applied by Muslim scholars from the East. This study adopts a qualitative methodology to look into the strategy of rhetorics used by the an Indonesian Muslim author, Habiburrahman El-Shirazy in his book Bumi Cinta (The Earth of Love) by applying The Model Rhetorics Dakwah al-Hikmah. The study wishes to look at the main difference between the western rhetorics and that of Islam and it is found that the difference lies in the decree of God which serves as the platform for the Muslim strategy. This study also argues that the rhetorics strategy is a form of a battle of the minds or a new crusade between the West, representing Christianity and Muslim writers especially via literary writings.
