Abstract

The rheological properties of terminal blend (TB) hybrid asphalt before and after aging were studied. Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer, sulphur, crumb rubber, and neat asphalt were chosen to prepare the terminal blend hybrid asphalt. The rolling film oven test (RTFOT) and the pressure aging test (PAV) were used to test the terminal blend hybrid asphalt. The rheological properties of the terminal blend hybrid asphalt were tested. The results show that the high temperature performance of TB hybrid asphalt is lower than that of SBS modified asphalt. Besides, with the decrease of crumb rubber, the G* and G*/sin δ of TB hybrid asphalt decreases more obviously, and the G* and G*/sin δ of 5TB+3SBS+0.3S (5 wt% crumb rubber, 3 wt% SBS and 0.3 wt% sulphur) is the smallest. Moreover, during the RTFOT aging, the SBS modifier in the TB hybrid asphalt degrades and makes the bitumen predominantly soft, However, during the PAV aging, the hardening of the bitumen plays a dominant role and increases its elasticity.
