Abstract

Abstract The rheological behaviour of a middle-phase microemulsions system composed of brine, heptane, 1-butanol, and sodium-dodecyl sulphate has been studied. The steady-state viscosity and the complex dynamic viscosity In the frequency range of 80 Hz to 250 kHz of a large number of microemulsion compositions in the III-phase region have been measured. The analysis with a model based on a microemulsion system with almost spherical droplets results in values for the interfacial tension between the Internal and external phases and the interfacial rheological properties. Density and dynamic light scattering measurements have been performed as a characterization of the microemulsion samples investigated.
