Abstract

The linear response of two interacting uniaxial systems is studied and the reversible transverse susceptibility (RTS) is calculated. There exist upto four nucleation fields at which RTS becomes singular. However, we find that nucleation of highly symmetric extremal energy states (identical components parallel or antiparallel to applied field) is not accompanied by a singularity in RTS. Specific examples are given and the case of n 2 interacting components is discussed.
