Abstract

Apparently dead and buried for years, metaphor has been resurrected - today metaphor is alive and well. Scholars and readers of Scripture, especially those socialised into the predominantly literal mind-set of the Western world, can no longer ignore the hermeneutical challenge that metaphor poses. What caused the death of metaphor and what has initiated its reawakening? These notions are embedded in a personal testimony of how metaphor has challenged and changed the author's outlook on reading and interpreting Scripture.
