Abstract
This paper reports the results of the urodynamic investigation of 150 patients by pressure/flow cystometry for complex lower urinary tract disorders and assesses the contribution made to our unit by these urodynamic techniques. The chief benefits have been the provision of objective information contrain-dicating surgery in males with symptoms suggesting outflow obstruction who were not genuinely obstructed, and in females whose incontinence was due to bladder instability. The diagnosis of more obscure lower urinary tract conditions such as male bladder neck obstruction was also greatly facilitated. The equipment has also been used to provide essential objective data for research into the aetiology of childhood enuresis and clinical trials on detrusor instability.
