Abstract

In The Netherlands an experiment has been done with floating car data (FCD). Sixty vehicles have been equipped with GPS and GSM devices to measure their position and to send this information to a central computer. From these data travel times were obtained. These travel times have been compared with measured travel times. It appears that the travel times from the FCD system are fairly accurate and can be used for several traffic information and traffic management applications.
