Abstract

This paper deals with the first year of protracted therapy on a three- or four-times-a-week basis with Meagan, a 29-year-old paranoic-schizophrenic woman, who lived each day with a pervasive, intensive desire to kill herself. The therapy went on for 10 years, during which time Meagan went back to school and became a highly gifted scholar in a field bordering on the sciences. She is now in psychotherapy with a male therapist on a once-weekly basis.
