Abstract

<h3>PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1</h3><h3>J. R. CHANDLER, MD, MIAMI, FLA</h3> For many years a 51-year-old married housewife had suffered from recurrent episodes of right forehead pain and slight swelling with a sense of pressure and pulsation. Her right frontal sinus was operated on 16 years previously through an external incision. It was reoperated on two separate occasions 12 and 13 years later through the same incision, and a "skin graft" was placed inside her sinus at the last procedure. Intermittent episodes of pain had continued associated with the periodic discharge of purulent material through a small opening in the incision. Examination revealed a slight fullness just above the medial canthus of her right eye with a crusted lesion in the center of a well-healed external ethmoidectomy-type incision. The swelling measured approximately 2 cm in diameter. There was slight tenderness over the frontal sinus and in the roof of the orbit. Intranasal examination was negative.
