Abstract

The question addressed in this study is how counselling trainees – students on one of our postgraduate courses -experience their learning and what they find are significant learning experiences in relation to their developing competence as a counsellor. The course, like many others, consists of various components: theory related to counselling; counselling practice, which includes skills training and supervised client work; and personal development, which includes individual therapy and experiential groups. I was interested to see how students perceive these various components contributing to their learning as counsellors.
