Abstract

Background Recently, the technique of ultrasound monitoring optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) has been paid more attention due to its rapid, non-invasive and other advantages. Objective Investigating the new application of ONSD monitoring to provide the theoretical and technical support. Content We reviewed recent progresses in researches on correlations between ONSD and intracranial pressure(ICP), critical value of ONSD and the application of ONSD measurement in perioperative period. Trend As a noninvasive, convenient, rapid and accurate bedside monitoring method, ONSD monitoring can be widely used for monitoring ICP changes during perioperative period. Ultrasound detection of ONSD bears a broad prospect of applications and researches. Key words: Increased intracranial pressure; Ultrasonography; Optic nerve sheath diameter; Perioperative period
