Abstract

Rotator cuff disease involves a spectrum of shoulder conditions from early tendinopathy to full thickness tears. Shoulder pain and dysfunction is a major problem in patients with these diseases which affect seriously the quality of life of patients. The subacromial bursa between the rotator cuff and the subacromial surface is considered to be the major focus for pain in rotator cuff disease. It plays an important role in the development of rotator cuff disease. In recent years, the subacromial bursa gradually cause for concern, but the natural history and molecular pathophyslology of subacromial bursa in cuff disease and the interaction between subacromial bursa and rotator cuff disease are far from being fully understood. Therefore, this systematic review focuses on the pathophysiology and molecular biology changes of the subacromial bursa for the development process of rotator cuff disease in recent years. And make a new outlook on possible mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of rotator cuff disease. Key words: Rotator cuff; Bursa, Synovial; Shoulder joint; Pain
