Abstract

The engraving process of projectile is very complicated process and play a key role on the ballistic performance. To get more insight into the behavior of the engraving process, this paper presents research on the interaction between small caliber projectile and rifling barrel with Quasi-static push test. The resistance force was measured during the projectile engraving process from the forcing cone under different barrel temperature. The push force vs. travel was recorded for the projectile transition through the forcing cone. The experiment results show the barrel temperature are important factor on the engraving force of the small caliber projectile.
