Abstract

Effectively use of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) can not only improve vehicular safety but also enhance the efficiency of current transport system and driving comfort. The key point of ITS is how Vehicles communicate with each other, which means we need a set of communication protocols to facilitate moving vehicles. For this reason, IEEE developed WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment) standard including IEEE 1609 protocol family and 802.11p. The WAVE standard improves previous protocols which were developed for ETC application. It's based on 802.11 architecture and achieves higher data rates, wider communication range and it can coexist with Internet and other mobile communication network. In this paper, we provide an overview of vehicles to vehicles communication techniques of ITS based on WAVE Architecture and briefly introduce the WAVE architecture, then present some research methods that had been put forward and some facing challenges.
