Abstract

Urban main functional areas are the spatial carriers of urban functions, which cluster important urban resources in specific regions, in order to implement essential urban purpose and core functions. Urban main functional areas have various characteristics such as highly-assembled key elements, significant social and economic benefits, and evident radial driving effect, which generally results in huge resident population and employment, and massive amount of traffic demands. Utilization of public transportation such as rail transit is a significant part of comprehensive transportation planning in urban area. In this essay, the analysis is presented about Beijing Center Business District (CBD) in terms of orientation, economic features, planning land, occupation and residence characteristics, and traffic situation. The investigation is provided about the historical changing process and major influence factors of Line CBD planning based on the Beijing rail transit network planning. The relationship between the rail transit and urban functional area development is analyzed. Suggestions for the urban rail transit lines planning in urban functional areas are proposed.
