Abstract

Objective To evaluate the repair of the tibia] bone defect with allograft bone and auto- graft bone combined with bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2). Methods From Feb. 2008 to Feb. 2011, 17 cases accepted reconstruction of tibia] bone defect with allograft bone and autograft bone com- bined with BMP-2, including 11 cases of tibia] bone defect caused by removing the sclerotic bone at the nonunion part after fracture fixation, and 6 cases of tibial bone defect from bone infection nonunion. All of them were treated by bone grafting and internal or external fixation. X-tray was taken to evaluate the bone healing at 1 st, 3rd, 6th and 12th month after operation. The function of the affected extremity was assessed by Johner-Wruhs grade. Results All of the cases were followed up for 14 months ( 10-38 months) postop- eratively. The bone defects and bone fracture healed in all cases without infection. The excellent and good rate according to Johner-Wruhs grade was 94%. Conclusion The " three in one" mode of bone grafting with a]lograft bone and autograft bone combined with BMP-2 is safe and reliable in reconstruction of tibia] bone defect. Key words: Allograft bone; Autograft bone; Bone morphogenetic protein-2; Bone defect
