Abstract

Skin commensal microbes are major contributors to cutaneous innate immunity. They produce their own antimicrobial peptides (AMPs),which enhance the normal production of AMPs by keratinocytes. These microbes are beneficial to maintain inflammatory homeostasis by suppressing excess cytokine release after epidermal injury. The imbalance of the microflora associates with diseases such as,atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and acnes. An enhanced understanding of the skin microbiome provides novel antimicrobial therapeutic approaches for their related dieases. Key words: Skin commensal microbes; Antbmicrobial peptides; Innate immunity; Skin diseases
