Abstract

The article recalls both the most important United Nations initiatives in the field of the repression of crimes of sexual exploitation and abuse committed by peacekeepers, the debates and arguments that have emerged as well as some recent proposals. The most recent United Nations practice clarifies the “new approach” that the United Nations system intends to follow. A few final remarks on what is today the perception of the phenomenon and how the “new approach” has contributed to raise the sensitiveness of the entire United Nations system towards sexual exploitation and abuse well beyond peacekeeping operations conclude the article.
