Abstract

The Future Groups reports prepared in spring 2008 were meant to be a source of inspiration for the next multi-annual programme in the field of Justice and Home affairs. The articles presents all the key proposals of the reports of the group that dealt with the future challenges in the field of criminal justice. It presents some main characteristics of programming in this field in last ten years. After describing the procedure of preparation, the main elements of its content have been presented. Among horizontal issues report concentrates on the improvement of the working methods of the Council, better communication to the public, quality of legislation and in particular adequate implementation and evaluation of the adopted legislation. As the main objectives in the criminal justice field identifies protection of citizen, enhanced access to justice, fight against organized crime and coherent approach in external dimension. The article makes several remarks on the development toward this objectives since the report was published.
