Abstract

This paper highlights the challenges encountered during the design of the replacement of Warsaw Road Swing Bridge in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. The project required the replacement of the moving bridge superstructure with a design to modern design standards but replicating exactly key historical features and reusing the 1896 foundations. The paper also discusses the use of technology to aid the communications between the site teams and design teams during the COVID-19 pandemic, where travel restrictions prevented the presence of the design team on site during key site operations.
