Abstract

Four children and one adult with large myelomeningocele defects underwent operations for the repair of soft tissue defects. The tissue expansion technique was used. The silicone tissue expanders were inserted on one side or both sides of the lesion and inflated weekly by saline injections. The expanded skin and subcutaneous tissue allowed easy midline closure of the defects. The results were very satisfactory.
