Abstract
The capacity increase of the Prieuré lake water-treatment plant in Geneva (Switzerland) required a corresponding increase in capacity of the water intake facilities. Three alternatives were considered. The selected project consisted of a new 2000 mm diameter offshore intake pipeline with a total length of 3 km, linked to an existing pipeline on-shore. Due to the expected low subatmospheric pressures during transient flow, severe design criteria had to be established for the buckling stability of the pipe shell and special attention was given to the corrosion protection scheme of the selected steelpipe. This paper describes the design and construction of the project.
