Abstract

Diabetes is the most common cause of end-stage renal disease today. Optimal blood glucose control and blood pressure control are basic in preventing or delaying the progression of diabetic nephropathy. A moderate protein intake is also recommended. The 1994 nutrition recommendations from the American Diabetes Association can provide guidelines for developing meal plans for patients with diabetes and nephropathy.
