Abstract

The chapter examines parody’s function as a critical realization of the ways in which cultural discourses are shaped by social power games and ideological dogmas of the various time periods. The chapter also discusses how Valenzuela’s rewriting of traditional fairy tales (e.g., her story “Si esta es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja” [“If this is life, I am Little Red Riding Hood”], such as the ones by Charles Perrault in the seventeenth century and the Grimm Brothers, along with Hans Christian Andersen in the nineteenth century, uncovers the political dimension of all cultural products.
