Abstract

Abstract The sources of distortion in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery are discussed. The Royal Signals and Radar Establishment airborne SAR system is described briefly and a phase correction scheme, based on autofocus measurements, to remove azimuth distortions is derived with the requirements for accuracy and update frequency of autofocus measurements. Examples of the application of the techniques to real SAR data are given.
