Abstract

This paper explores the attempts made by Italian Fascists to develop Fascist sympathies in the Italian community in London during the 1930s. Using a combination of autobiographical accounts and articles published in the main Italian newspaper in Britain, L'Italia Nostra, the means by which this was achieved are discussed. The importance of mutual aid, official involvement in community activities and the use of history to inculcate Fascist interpretations of national pride are all discussed.
