Abstract

ABSTRACT This article examines the three-year editorial process for all Franciscan entries in the 2002 edition of the New Catholic Encyclopedia. It outlines the project's editorial guidelines and presents its editorial data, which identifies the actual differences between the Franciscana entries between the 1967 and the 2002 editions, that is, percentages of new, rewritten, revised, reprinted and deleted entries. Data analysis reveals qualitative and quantitative differences between the two editions while also revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the 2002 entries, which provided new perspectives, major revision of seminal articles, abundant bibliographic updates, and systematic review of all entries.
