Abstract

In order to rationalize the safety margin of pressurized components subject to local metal loss, we applied a probabilistic reliability method. The modeling of the local metal loss is based on API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 and we investigated the safety margin for the assessment criterion quantitatively. We also proposed an assessment curve based on the reliability index for local metal loss. The assessment criterion of API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 can be expressed on the probabilistic basis. The proposed assessment curve based on the probabilistic reliability method can be used to the local metal loss based on the quantified safety margin and it is expected to expand the allowable conditions for the local metal loss compared with those by API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
