Abstract

The release of glutamic aspartic transaminase, glutamic dehydrogenase, and cytochrome c from rat liver mitochondria incubated with 2, 4-dinitrophenol, triamcinolone, oligomycin, and sugars was studied. These uncoupling agents produced a higher activity of glutamic dehydrogenase and glutamic aspartic transaminase in the mitochondrial supernatants; a higher amount of cytochrome c could not be detected. ATP, ADP, and EDTA 2 2 Abbreviations used: EDTA, sodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; DPNH, reduced form of diphosphopyridine nucleotide: GD, glutamic dehydrogenase; GOT, glutamic aspartic transaminase; ATP, adenosine triphosphate; ADP, adenosine diphosphate; DNP, 2,4-dinitrophenol; Tris, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. prevented the triamcinolone effect. The possible relation between oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial enzyme release is discussed.
