Abstract

The proteolytic enzyme subtilisin Carlsberg has been used to digest human livers containing a variety of basic drugs. Results of subsequent drug analysis showed that greatly increased levels of these drugs were released compared with degradation using conventional acid hydrolysis procedures. An analytical procedure is proposed for use in forensic case work for the isolation of basic drugs, unchanged benzodiazepines and drug metabolites in high yield from a single liver digest.
