Abstract

We simulate relativistic heavy-ion collisions within the relativistic BUU model employing a full solution of the meson-field equations. The results are compared to those obtained in the local density approximation used in previous calculations. Both with and without a collision term, we find good agreement up to projectile energies of 5 GeV/nucleon. Retardation and radiation effects are visible; however, their influence on the reaction dynamics and observables is negligible. The amount of energy radiated off the system is found to be less than 3 MeV/nucleon.
