Abstract

ummaryTwo years’ experiments in a range of environmental conditions showed that tipburn incidence in lettuce cv Cobham Green was positively correlated with the total evaporation from an open water surface during the seven days prior to maturity. The lengths of tipburn-susceptible leaves at maturity were also positively correlated with tipburn incidence and it is suggested that tipburn may occur when the calcium requirement for leaf growth exceeds supply.
