Abstract

The deaths from smoking are reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 2015 to about 4,000,000 - 6,000,000 deaths worldwide each year. There are several protective factors that cause a person to avoid the habit of smoking, among others, the factor of religiosity that will impact in the actions and daily behavior. The purpose of this research is to find correlation between smoking habit and religiosity at first grade student of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Bandung Academic Year 2016 - 2017. This research is observational analytic with cross-sectional approach and analyzed by rank spearmen test. The data were obtained from the validated questionnaires to each of the 35 smokers and non smokers who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of data analysis showed P = <0.001 (P ≤0,05) which means strong relationship between smoking habit and religiosity. The magnitude of the relationship between smoking and religiosity was -0.593. This relationship is strong enough. The higher the smoking habit will be lower the level of religiosity.
