Abstract

Background: The percentage of emotional and behavioral disorders in preschool age children is quite high, namely 34.10%. One of the factors that affect the emotional development of children is the age of the mother when she was pregnant. Results and Methods: This study aims to determine the relationship between pregnancy at a young age and the emotional development of children aged 3-5 years. This study uses a historical cohort design. The research subjects were all pregnant women who were pregnant in 2017-2018 in the working area of ​​the Kebomas Health Center. The sample of this study amounted to 74 respondents. The independent variable, namely the emotional development of children, was measured using a questionnaire. The dependent variable, namely maternal age was measured using a questionnaire. External variables, namely the number of children, gender, mother and father's education, parenting, and income were measured using a questionnaire. The analysis used is chi square and multiple logistic regression. Conclusion: The results show that there is a relationship between pregnancy at a young age and the emotional development of children aged 3-5 years. Children aged 3-5 years who are born to mothers who are pregnant at a young age and have an 80% chance of experiencing emotional development disorders compared to adult mothers. Suggestions for adolescents, families, and health workers to pay attention to age during pregnancy so that they can avoid emotional disturbances for children aged 3-5 years by making a pregnancy program after 20-35 years.
