Abstract

The findings of previous studies on the correlation between trait mindfulness (MF) and academic performance (AP) have been inconsistent. The purpose of the current study was to provide a thorough synthesis of prior research based on a three-level random-effects meta-analytic model to explore the link between trait MF and AP, as well as potential moderators that may affect this relationship. By analysing 75 effect sizes across 22 studies, it was identified a significant and small positive correlation between trait MF and AP (r = 0.141; p < .0001). The moderator analysis showed that measurement of MF (F (6, 68) = 3.319; p = .006) and publication type (F (1, 73) = 5.657; p = .020) were significant moderators, while region (F (2, 72) = 3.111; p = .051) was a marginally significant moderator on the association between trait MF and AP. Overall, the current meta-analysis revealed that trait MF was positively related to AP.
