Abstract

The coexistence of COPD and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) is known as an overlap syndrome. These conditions are often accompanied by concomitant CAD. The objective of the study was to find the relationship between the severity of OSA and the severity of such pathologies as CAD and COPD. The study included 54 patients with COPD combined with CAD in association with OSA. To detect breathing disorders during sleep a diagnostic system for diagnostic screening OSA - SOMNOcheck micro WM 94500 was used. In order to determine the presence of OSA, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), obstructive apnea-hypopnea index (OAHI) were evaluated. Also, cardial risk index (CRI) was assessed. COPD duration, number of exacerbations of COPD per year, forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), FEV1 to forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio were valued. Dyspnea severity was assessed using the Borg dyspnea scale and MMRC scale. Also the duration of CAD, heart failure functional capacity were evaluated. The correlation between the index, reflecting the severity of OSA - AHI and symptoms that reflect the severity of COPD - COPD duration (r=0,48), the number of exacerbations of COPD per year (r=0,42), as well as indicators of Borg dyspnea scale (r=0,44) and MMRC scale (r=0,5) was found. OAHI correlated with FEV1 (0,63) and FEV1/FVC ratio (r=0,58). Also, correlation of CRI with the duration of CAD (r=0,71) and heart failure functional capacity (r=0,64) were discovered. The severity of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is directly related to the severity of clinical sympoms of such comorbid conditions as COPD and CAD.
