Abstract

The relationship between the average absolute magnitude and the rms level of long-time continuous speech is reported in this paper. The ratio of these two measurements (called β) and the standard deviation of this ratio have been experimentally determined as a function of speech utterance lengths from 2.5 s to 10 min. For utterance lengths greater than about 20 s, the average value of β is approximately 0.55 and 0.60 for male and female speakers, respectively.
