Abstract
The anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility and the natural remanent magnetization of haematite-bearing Welsh Cambrian slates, showing a gradation in degree of deformation, have been related to the known strain of these rocks. An approximate quantitative relationship between strain and magnetic susceptibility anisotropy has been deduced, which would allow rapid strain estimation in this region by magnetic analysis.
