The relationship between the duration of internet use and digital game addiction in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the duration of internet use and digital game addiction in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students from elementary schools. Methods: Sample data was obtained using Digital Game Addiction Scale Form and Addiction Profile Index Form. Results: It has been found that 31.5% of daily internet use was between 0-3 hours, 13.2% was between 4-5 hours, 3.2% was 6 hours or more while 31.6% of the students scored higher than the internet addiction scale cut-off score and 13.2% were addicted to digital games. While there was no significant difference in the internet use periods among grades, it was concluded that digital gaming addiction was significantly different in the 3rd grade students. There was no significant difference in gender variable in terms of digital game addiction. The internet use period is significantly higher in male students. Conclusion: There is a low correlation between digital game addiction and the duration of internet use.
