are associated with success in social studies, science, and arithmetic achieve ment at the sixth grade level. The study involves an application of testing and statistical techniques in an endeavor to discover whether superior reading ability in a given reading skill is significantly related to successful achieve ment in each of the three areas of arithmetic, social studies, and science. In addition the patterns of relationships of the reading skills to each achieve ment area may be compared to determine whether the different reading skills are related to areas of achievement in different ways.
