Abstract

A survey of branch staff in a large metropolitan public library examined four dimensions of perceived quality of goal setting- specificity, difficulty, feedback and parlicipation-as they related to overall satisfaclion, as well as satisfaction with job, supervisor, and co-workers. The relationships between job satisfaction and gender, education, occupational level, and tenure were also studied. Analysis revealed that a11 four dimensions of goal setting were correlated with overall job satisfaction. The pattern of correlations between subdimensions of both goal setting and job satisfaction varied, however, for professional and support staff.
