Abstract
Post-translational intracellular processing of preprnghrelin generates two antithetical peptides,ghrelin and obestatin.Ghrelin and obestatin have opposite effects on food intake,lipid metabolism,regulating digestive function and energy balance.Moreover,they have different effects on growth hormone releasing.However,the two poptides are even correlated closely with glucose and lipid metabolisms.In addition,preproghrelin has definite biological activities outside of the coding region in mature active product.Mutations in introns and non-coding exon regions of the gene may affect the biological activities of its product and organic function.Especially the polymorphism located on Leu72Met,which is closely connected with glucose and lipid metabolisms,influenced the onset and development of obesity.
